On July 14, 1906, Tom Carvel (born Athanassios Karvelas) was born in Greece. He lived there for the first four years of his life, immigrating with his parents to New York City in 1910.
From that humble beginning, Carvel went on to found the their Franchise, which was the first American ice cream retail franchise. Today, Carvel maintains 500 stores and their ice cream is sold in 8,500 American supermarkets.
