Oregano Ice Cream Recipe
An oregano ice cream recipe, you say? Yup! I understand this is a Greek ice cream flavor and if you have some extra oregano in your garden this summer – why not give this a try?
Oregano. A fun and useful herb to have in the garden – but sometime you might feel like you have too much of a good thing and wonder what else you can make with this tasty herb.
Why not try something a little outside the box? Why not try a Greek ice cream flavor to take a little heat out of air this summer?
Oregano flavored ice cream has a distinct, classy flavor. It won’t satisfy a sweet tooth or be the favorite of a picky eater, but for those who love to try new things and give there tastebuds a whirl – this might be something you want to give a try.
The Verdict
We had varying reactions to this ice cream flavor in our house.
Our pre-schooler told me – “Mommy, I don’t really like this ice cream. Can you please make me an ice cream I like?”
Now we’ve tried tons of different ice cream flavors in our home – bacon, basil…and she’s liked them all. This was the first ice cream flavor she’s met that she didn’t like.
My toddler and I didn’t mind this flavor. It was pretty good.
Unusual, but good.
So, I think overall it’s a great experience.
If you’re thinking you’re making an ice cream in the traditional American sense of the word, sweet, creamy, and decadent – you’re going to be disappointed.
But if you think of this as a frozen treat, totally unrelated to traditional ice cream, you should enjoy this classy, refined dessert.
Serving Tip
Garnish ice cream with fresh oregano and honey (the darker the honey the better – and of course, for an authentic Greek flavor – Greek honey is best)!
Serving this ice cream with honey really “makes” this flavor.
